Water Well Drilling Rigs: Crawler, Wheeled or Truck-Mounted

The chassis decision drives half the operating cost of a water-well business — pick by terrain, transport distance, well depth and hole diameter.

1. The chassis decision

Crawler rigs (KS series) live on site and handle soft ground; wheeled rigs (KS130, KS180A, KS200A) drive themselves between nearby wells; truck-mounted rigs (TZT, CZC, TEC, CDC) travel between provinces at highway speed. Match the chassis to how the rig moves between wells.

2. Matching the compressor to the well

KS180/KS260 pair with KSZJ-18/17A class compressors (18 m³/min @ 1.7 MPa); KS300B-KS450 with KSZJ-29/23 class; KS800/KS1000 need the LGZJ high-pressure family (2.5-3.5 MPa). Dual-mode switching lets one compressor serve wells of different depths.

3. Project reference

Our water well rigs are supplied to remote and off-grid projects worldwide, paired with Kaishan deep-well compressors (KSZJ/LGZJ) as the standard air package for crawler water-well fleets.

Frequently asked questions

Which rig for 300-450 m municipal wells?

A crawler KS300B-KS450 with a KSZJ-29/23 compressor is the standard package for 300-450 m programs, or a hydraulic top drive truck rig when wells are scattered across provinces.

Can a wheeled rig drill hard rock?

Wheeled rigs (KS180A/KS200A/KS200B) handle 100-254 mm holes with DTH hammers in medium rock; for hard granite and deeper wells, step up to a crawler or truck-mounted rig.
